Coordinated care

We collaborate with your child’s speech, occupational, feeding, and physical therapists to provide sessions directly in our centers. This allows your child to access other services in a familiar environment while minimizing unnecessary transitions and travel.

Family Guidance

Parents and caregivers play an important role in their child’s growth. Every care plan includes twice-a-month Family Guidance sessions led by a BCBA, giving parents practical strategies they can use during therapy and in daily routines at home.

School readiness support

Center-based ABA therapy helps children build the skills they need for school, such as communication, social interaction, and executive function. For school-age children, ABC Academy continues that support by bridging the gap between therapy and the classroom.

Does insurance cover ABA therapy in Houston?

Many commercial health plans provide coverage for medically necessary ABA therapy, but benefits, authorization requirements, and out-of-pocket costs vary by policy. Coverage can also differ depending on whether your child receives care at a Houston-area center, through ABC at Home, or through another eligible program.

Before therapy begins, ABC’s insurance specialists can review your benefits and explain any required approvals. Families should confirm coverage for their preferred program and location, as Medicaid is not currently accepted at ABC centers in Texas.

What does a typical day look like at an ABA therapy center in Houston?

Each child follows an individualized schedule based on their treatment goals rather than a single routine used for everyone. A typical day may include one-on-one therapy, structured skill-building activities, movement, meals, social interaction, and opportunities to practice communication, self-care, and daily living skills.

RBTs collect data throughout sessions so the supervising BCBA can monitor progress and adjust goals or teaching strategies when needed. Families may also receive updates about the skills their child practiced and ways to reinforce progress during routines at home.

For children enrolled in ABC Academy, the schedule may place additional emphasis on school-readiness skills such as organization, flexibility, independence, and classroom participation.

How do I choose an ABA therapy center near Houston?

When choosing an ABA therapy center near Houston, families may want to consider location, availability, insurance coverage, diagnostic support, and whether the center provides individualized, BCBA-led therapy based on their child’s needs. It can also help to select a center that fits conveniently into home, school, and work routines to ensure care is easier to maintain consistently.

Who can diagnose autism?

In the U.S., autism is diagnosed by qualified medical and mental health professionals through a comprehensive evaluation. This process may include direct observation, developmental history, caregiver interviews, and standardized diagnostic tools to determine whether a child meets criteria for autism spectrum disorder. Many children can be evaluated as early as 18 months old.

Professionals who may diagnose autism include:

  • Developmental pediatricians
  • Child psychologists or neuropsychologists
  • Child psychiatrists
  • Pediatric neurologists

Board Certified Behavior Analysts® (BCBAs®) may support the evaluation process, but a formal autism diagnosis is typically made by one of the specialists listed above. Learn more about how to get an autism diagnosis.

What is the best treatment for autism?

At Action Behavior, we provide applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy, a gold standard treatment for autism. ABA therapy for autism is evidence-based, which means it has been tested and shown to be effective through multiple scientific studies.

Our internal data show that children with autism who require comprehensive ABA therapy (25 or more hours per week) experience, on average, an 86% reduction in challenging behaviors such as aggression, elopement, property destruction, and self-injury. Most of this progress happens within the first year of treatment. Even as therapy hours are gradually reduced by about 20% over time, children continue to show lasting improvements. See more of our outcomes research here.

What is ABA therapy and how does it work?

Applied behavior analysis therapy is a research-backed method that helps children diagnosed with autism learn new skills and reduce behaviors that may make learning harder. With ABA, children can improve communication, build daily living skills, and better understand their emotions. Our ABA therapists utilize different strategies, like Discrete Trial Teaching (DTT) and Natural Environment Teaching (NET), to support each child’s progress. Therapy is delivered through a compassionate care framework and emphasizes the child’s individual needs and goals.
