What are the levels of autism?

The DSM-5 describes three levels of autism based on the level of support someone needs.

Level 1 autism: (requiring some support)
May include trouble with back-and-forth communication, little interest in friendships, inflexibility or difficulty switching activities, and challenges with planning and organizing.
Level 2 autism: (requiring substantial support)
Involves clear communication difficulties, narrow interests, limited starting and responding in social interactions, trouble with change, and repetitive behaviors that affect daily life. ‍
Level 3 autism: (requiring very substantial support)
