A variety of research studies have shown that Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention (EIBI) with ABA therapy is the most effective method to help children on the Spectrum overcome their developmental delays.
Signs of Autism Spectrum Disorder
For parents who have concerns about their child’s development, there are a number of telltale signs and behaviors that may indicate a risk of autism:
- Delay in speech and language
- Delay in nonverbal communication
- Child doesn’t respond to name
- Child doesn’t use typical gestures (pointing to things)
- Delay in social skills and social responses
- Repetitive behaviors
- Sensory sensitivities (hypersensitive to sounds, lights, textures, tastes)
- Obsessions and fixations
- Temper tantrum and meltdown behaviors
How Will ABA Therapy Help My Child?
Applied Behavior Analysis therapy is an all-encompassing approach to treating the delays associated with autism. Through one-on-one intensive therapy, children will make improvements in the following areas:
- Speech and Language
- Nonverbal Communication
- Social Skills
- Imaginary Play Skills
- Self-regulating emotions (reducing meltdowns and temper tantrum behaviors)
- Repetitive behaviors
- Aggressive and self-injurious behaviors
- Any areas of deficit that are specific to the child
When Should My Child Begin ABA Therapy?
The earlier, the better. It’s simple.
Several research studies have shown that children who begin ABA therapy as early as possible (about 2 years of age) see the most significant gains in their deficits. Starting intensive ABA therapy at a young age best prepares children for neurotypical school settings.
No Wait List
Whether it comes to getting tested for a potential diagnosis of ASD or starting ABA therapy services, long waitlists are an unfortunate reality in the special needs community.
Action Behavior Centers can help with both of these things.
If you’re concerned your child might be on the autism spectrum:
Contact us to schedule an ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule) assessment. We work with many pediatricians and neurologists in Austin to assist with the process of diagnosing ASD. Our diagnostic assessments are free of charge – we’re simply offering them as a courtesy to the community to help families avoid waitlists and begin therapy sooner.
If your child already has a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder from a pediatrician or neurologist:
Contact us to schedule a tour of our facility or find our more about our ABA therapy program. Our knowledgable intake coordinators will walk you through our enrollment process and direct you towards any next steps.
How much will ABA therapy cost my family?
One of the first questions many families have about ABA therapy is about cost.
The good news is that there is a Texas Autism Mandate that requires all private insurance companies to cover the cost of ABA therapy. At Action Behavior Centers in South Austin, we can work with all major commercial insurance providers, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Aetna, Beacon Health Options, Cigna, and others.
Unfortunately, Medicaid does not cover ABA therapy at this time. Our insurance team is staying on top of this issue and will be the first to know if there is a legislative change.
