What is ABA Therapy and How Will it Help My Child?
For decades now, scientific research has continued to strengthen the argument that intensive ABA therapy leads to the most drastic improvements in the developmental delays experienced by those with ASD.
ABA treatment plans are created by Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), who are Mastered-level clinicians. Since all children on the spectrum may show unique traits and behaviors, each treatment plan is highly individualized to meet the needs of each child.
With various techniques, including positive reinforcement and redirecting problem behaviors, ABA therapy brings about improvement across the following areas of development:
- Communication – Speech, Language and Nonverbal Communication
- Social Skills
- Natural and Imaginary Play Skills
- Daily Living Skills (brushing teeth, washing hands, dressing, holding silverware, etc.)
- Toilet Training
- Self-injurious and Aggressive Behaviors
- Temper Tantrums and Meltdowns
- Sensory Sensitivities
- Trouble with Transitions
- Food Aversions
When Should My Child Begin ABA Therapy?
Today. The sooner, the better.
Decades-worth of scientific research on ABA therapy is consistent on this: children who begin intensive ABA services as early as possible tend to see more significant improvements than those who start at later ages.
No Wait List
An unfortunate reality in the ABA world is the 6- to 9-month waitlists seen at many other ABA centers.
By continuing to add on dedicated and highly qualified BCBAs and Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) to our team, ABC maintains its open doors for children in need of ABA services. Early childhood is a critical time of brain development, so we understand there’s no time to waste waiting around for available spots.
Our Cedar Park ABA Therapy center has no wait list! Call 512-688-8530 to ask about next steps.
Free Autism Diagnostic Assessments
Behavioral specialists are also known to have long waitlists to provide diagnoses of ASD, some surpassing 12 months or more.
To help families access therapy services sooner, ABC works with many pediatricians, neurologists, and developmental specialists to provide free autism assessments (no, there’s no catch!). The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2) is known as the gold standard of autism assessments, which is what we offer at our centers. The ADOS-2 performed at Action Behavior Centers is not a formal diagnosis – it serves as a tool in helping the family’s referring physician determine whether a formal diagnosis of ASD is necessary.
Claire Schutte, Psy.D, BCBA-D, is an integral part of ABC’s clinical team, ensuring all ADOS-2 assessments are conducted thoroughly and accurately.
How much will ABA therapy cost my family?
ABC has a strong insurance team who fights the good fight to ensure families can access the services they need to offer their child a bright future. We work directly with insurance companies on your behalf, handling everything from benefits & eligibility checks to pre-authorizations for ABA therapy.
There is a Texas Autism Mandate that requires all private insurance companies to provide coverage for ABA therapy services for children on the Spectrum. At Action Behavior Centers, we can work with all major commercial insurance providers, including (but not limited to):
- United Healthcare
- Blue Cross Blue Shield
- Beacon Health Options
Unfortunately, Medicaid does not cover ABA therapy in Texas at this time. Our insurance team is on the lookout for any legislative changes. Our staff will be glad to connect Medicaid patients with other resources in the meantime.
